Qu’est-ce que l’énurésie ?

L’énurésie correspond à des mictions involontaires, le plus souvent la nuit (on parle alors d’énurésie nocturne), chez un enfant âgé de 5 ans ou plus, âge auquel le contrôle de la vessie est habituellement acquis.

C’est une situation fréquente et bénigne, mais qui peut être source de gêne, de stress ou de baisse de confiance en soi chez l’enfant.

Est-ce fréquent ?

Oui, très fréquent :

• Environ 10 à 15 % des enfants de 5 ans
• 5 % à 10 ans
• Parfois persistant à l’adolescence

L’énurésie diminue naturellement avec l’âge.

Pourquoi mon enfant fait-il encore pipi au lit ?

Plusieurs mécanismes peuvent être impliqués :

Retard de maturation vésicale

La vessie ou les mécanismes de contrôle ne sont pas encore totalement matures.

Sommeil profond

L’enfant ne se réveille pas lorsque la vessie est pleine.

Production excessive d’urines la nuit

Certains enfants produisent trop d’urine pendant le sommeil.

Facteurs génétiques

Il existe souvent des antécédents familiaux.

Facteurs psychologiques

• Stress
• Changement de milieu (école, déménagement)
• Naissance d’un petit frère ou sœur

L’énurésie n’est jamais volontaire.
